As the entire footballing fratenity comtemplates what should have been after Arsenal's remarkable stumble against supposedly lowly opposition, I grin at my Singapore Pools ticket which says 2-1 to Middlesbrough happily. Hahaha!
This post isn't ALL about boasting over my supposed competence in predicting results, rather it is to express my joy in playing the sport.
After I graduated from VJ with not so flying colours, i never thought that the regular soccer sessions would continue but continue it did, even up to now. Scoring and assisting in the goal, making that crucial tackle, keeping out that certain goal. These are things we find so addictive in soccer but what really makes my experience special is the interation with friends. When it somehow all connects and the team scores a goal, we celebrate the minor miracle that has occured. When the opposite team scores a goal too, we applaud them for their exquisite skills and shot. It's especially heartwarming when you realise your friends think like you too.
I was talking to munty after another session. And he said something about how even though he was tired, he still felt soccer was fun. This despite soccer being the very thing which damaged his poor arm. When someone like munty says something is fun, it really must be something special and i felt so heartened by his words. Ha, i sound like a bloody gay.
Yea, special soccer buddies! I shall commemorate our constant soccer gatherings by offering an unbiased analytical view on all of you. =P
Glen : Blessed with natural talent on the ball, he can take out an entire team with bamboozling footwork followed by an eyecatching finish. Also an extremely accomplished passer of the ball.
Daniel : Equipped with height and intelligence, he often surges past opponents before expertly picking out a teammate for the goal. A striker's dream. Packs a strong shot too!
Munty : Defies all critics with a remarkable sense of balance and an eyecatching tackle. Coupled with sound ball technique honed from hours of work, he is the fastest rising star of the s46 football fraternity.
Seth : The poster boy of our soccer sessions. Just like the yellow singlet he usually dons, his antics bewilder opponents and teammates alike. Expect the unexpected from this guy. Any match with him will be a colourful one.
Jfoo : Undisputed No.1 between the sticks. He is also a no-nonsense defender, whacking balls away from goal even when there are nobody in front. Plays with a smile.
Alvin : Obsessed with scoring with panache, he tries backheels when it's easier for him to score with his ass. Rooney-ish playing style without runs, he can be relied upon to not score goals when it matters. And score when it does.
Kafai : Best sweeper in the team. Dominates the backline with a physical yet skillful approach. Can turn on the style anytime during the match. Yeah baby!
Jerome : Hardest worker, maybe clocking a half-marathon everytime he plays. His energy and commitment to the team's cause is admirable. Also likes to wear singlets.
Leslie : Another explosive player with a tendency to burst past players like they aren't there. A lion's performance every game. No wonder he's an officer!
Clarence : Plays his football with swagger and an attitude that oftens stirs everbody to play better. A true motivator. Has a tendency to get savaged in the face.
Mark : Tall and reliable. He is our Sami Hyypia without the blond hair but definately with more grey matter.
Jeremy : Known to be enthusiastic about the game but not much has been seen of this vocalist. Athletic and articulate, we'd like to see more of him in future games.
That should be all the comments i can offer. Thanks for continually providing me an opportunity to play the sport i love! Let's continue this for as long as possible. Viva la futbol!
