Well well, after the company 'exploits' at Rockhampton, who would have thought that i will still be here praising another part of Australia. Granted, we had our fair share of ups and downs and i imploded on more than one occasion. (Becoming worryingly common) I thought I sorted myself out pretty well towards the end. Perhaps I have been indeed taking army life too seriously. Ha! To hell with undeserved criticism and putting downs. Countdown to ORD has well and truly begun! =)
Overall, the accommodation there was great. We stayed at this place called Sebel Resort and Spa. Freaking awesome place. Swimming pool, gym, jacuzzi and even a pingpong table.. Sure as hell beat the living crap out of Camp Growl in Rockhampton! But then again, we were attached to the Condors this time. Wee! Yea, company was great too. My room-mate, Mr Seow was puuuuurfect. Just the right amount of everything contributed to a really homely feeling in bunk. Now now, i mean that in a perfectly innocent way. =D Cs, Jq and Elvin and of course PC made up the rest of the indomitable 6! Oh, and despite the rumours about the NSmen being too strict and xialan beforehand, they turned out great too. Really. Commanders wise, save for the expiring primate, i guess it was pretty alright.
Ok enough about the boring stuff. What was interesting was how many times we went to Sydney. 3 times?! Hahaha that was more than i could have asked for in my entire life. Sadly though, the hustle and bustle and of course, the impossibly expensive shops there contributed to a less than fulfilling shopping experience. In fact, what made Sydney alluring was indeed food and friends. I was never a big fan of arcades ever since i grew out of the whole virtua fighter thing. But being there this time really revived the arcade-loving fella in me. Hahaha, who knew that throwing hoops could be THAT fun! And throwing 'stacks and stacks' (pun intended) of coins into stupid (or should i say, SMART AS HELL) machines sure as hell brought out the bitter-sweet feeling of money-for-thrill adrenaline rush. Oh well... Stupid stackerz.. Besides that, the other bright spark in oh-so-modern Sydney was the food, in well, Chinatown! Poporo was great. So was the food in the foodcourt. I guess being in a country where the staple diet are 'chips and funky stuff', people do tend to appreciate oriental food a whole deal more.
And Paramatta? I think I like Paramatta a tad more because it is more down-to-earth. Perhaps abit Singapor-ish in the mall but yet also unique OUTSIDE the mall. I remember us taking a stroll along the sidewalks of this foreign place and feeling comforted at the sight of so many asian-related stores. Then, we walked into this sort of open space leading to more shops and even a bazaar sale in a building strangely resembling a concert hall. Felt so European. But anw, yes, Sydney and Paramatta, set aside the shopping males and good weather, pretty much everything else were parks and mini landmarks that were mildly interesting. Haha!
It was surreal and a welcome break away from work. But yes, we are down to the business end of the ORD path now. I am going to keep pushing till i finally recover my pink ic.
